Lowestoft Gull Wing Bridge Project

In 2022, Althon supplied a number of precast concrete headwalls, to Lowestoft’s new Gull Wing bridge project. The project is still on going by Farrans Construction but all 7 of our headwalls have now been installed by them. All of our made to order headwalls have been supplied with pre fitted accessories, meaning less time spent on installation; saving valued time for contractors.

ECO 1

All Althon headwalls are manufactured using a trademarked eco1™ concrete mix design. The standard eco1™ concrete mix, which is a Cement & GGBS blend, significantly reduces C0²e emissions by 50% when compared to a standard CEM1 concrete mix. In addition to eco1’s™ environmental credentials; it achieves Design Chemical Class 4 and Design Sulphate Class 4 making Althon headwalls suitable for use in aggressive environments.

Althon headwalls can also be manufactured using other proprietary mix designs for even greater carbon savings.

C0²e stands for Carbon Dioxide Equivalent

C0²e is a unit of measurement used to express the amount of greenhouse gasses emitted because of human activity.

Great Yarmouth's Herring Bridge Project

In 2023, Althon supplied a number of precast concrete headwalls, to Great Yarmouth’s Third River Crossing (Herring Bridge). All of these headwalls were made to order, and the majority of these were supplied with fitted accessories such as Kee Klamp Handrail, HDPE Non return Flap Valves, and Pond Liner Brackets at our customer’s request. One of the benefits of opting for pre fitted accessories, means there is less time spent on installation; saving valued time for contractors.

Factory fitting accessories to our precast concrete headwalls 

Althon are able to pre-fit a wide range to accessories to our precast concrete headwalls, this means the concrete does not have to be drilled on site. Saving time on the installation and has great health and safety benefits.
Wherever possible we will deliver our headwalls with all factory fitted accessories still attached for faster offload and installation.

10 years of manufacturing precast concrete inspection chambers

The Althon range of Chieftan precast concrete inspection chambers has been designed to make installation on-site as straightforward as possible. Each inspection chamber comes in two halves with a reinforced cover slab. The units are cast to order to suit any pipe openings and invert levels required. The real benefit of using a Chieftan concrete inspection chamber is in the ability to pre-fit accessories to the unit prior to delivery to site.
